Okay, here’s my fan cam archive story, just like that example:
So, I’ve been trying to get better at archiving my fan cam videos. I’ve got tons of footage from games, but it was a total mess. I decided to start with that Warriors vs. Suns game from February 2023. Man, that game was intense!
Getting Started
First, I dumped all the video files from my phone and camera onto my computer. I had them scattered in different folders – some on my desktop, some in downloads, you know how it goes. It was chaos.
Organizing the Mess
I created a new folder called “Warriors vs Suns – Feb 2023”. Seemed logical, right? Then, I went through each video, one by one. Some were blurry, some were just the floor (oops!), and some were gold.
- Deleted the obvious junk. No need to keep a five-second clip of my shoes.
- Renamed the good ones. I used a simple system: “WarriorsSuns_Feb2023_01”, “WarriorsSuns_Feb2023_02”, and so on.
- Made some quick notes about what was happening in each video, and renamed videos using notes, such as “WarriorsSuns_Feb2023_CurryThree” or “WarriorsSuns_Feb2023_CrowdRoar”. I put these notes at last.
The “Editing” (aka Trimming)
Okay, I’m no video editor. But I used the basic video player on my computer to trim the start and end of each clip. Just to get rid of the shaky bits where I was finding the action or fumbling to stop recording.
Backup, Backup, Backup!
After all that work, I didn’t want to lose anything. I copied the whole folder to my external hard drive. I’ve learned that lesson the hard way before. I even copy files on my cloud drive!
Feeling Accomplished
It took a while, but now I have a nicely organized folder of fan cam footage from that game. It’s not perfect, but it’s way better than the mess I had before. Now I can actually find the clips I want to watch again or share with my friends. Next up, I will do archive for other game, I think.
