Today, I wanted to figure out a simple question: how many points are goals and assists worth in soccer? It seemed straightforward, but you know how these things go – sometimes the simplest questions take you down a rabbit hole.
Digging into the Points System
I started by, well, just thinking about it. I mean, I’ve watched enough soccer games, right? You score a goal, you get a point. It’s pretty basic. But I wanted to be absolutely sure, so I did what anyone would do – I fired up my search engine.
My initial search terms were something like “soccer points system” and “how are points awarded in soccer.” I figured this would give me the official rules and all that good stuff.

The first few results confirmed what I already knew. Each goal is worth one point. No surprises there. It’s the foundation of the game, really.
Then I started to see results to confrim my another guess, and as I thought that Assists are worth one point as well. I got it all right!
Putting It All Together
So, after all that “research” (which, let’s be honest, took like 5 minutes), here’s the incredibly simple answer:
- Goals: 1 point each
- Assists: 1 point each
Yep, that’s it. Sometimes the most obvious things are, well, obvious. I guess I just needed to confirm it for myself. Now I can go back to watching the game with complete and utter confidence in my knowledge of the scoring system!
