Okay, so I’ve been wanting a dart board for a while, but I didn’t want it just hanging out in the open all the time. I wanted something that looked nice and could hide the board when I wasn’t using it. So I decided to build a dart board cabinet – just the cabinet, mind you, no pre-made kit or anything.
First, I measured my dartboard. You know, gotta make sure the thing actually fits inside! I jotted down the diameter and the depth, adding a little extra room all around for breathing space.
Then came the fun part – picking out the wood. I’m no carpenter, so I went with some basic pine boards from the hardware store. I grabbed a few different sizes to make the sides, back, and doors. Nothing fancy, just something sturdy enough.

Cutting and Assembly
Next up, I cut the wood. I used a simple hand saw, ’cause that’s all I have. I made sure to measure twice (or thrice, let’s be honest) before cutting anything. I cut pieces for the top, bottom, and sides, making them a bit bigger than the dartboard’s measurements to give it some wiggle room.
I then assembled the basic box shape. I used wood glue and some screws to hold it all together. It wasn’t pretty, but it was solid! Clamps were my best friends during this part – they kept everything in place while the glue dried.
For the back, I used a thinner piece of wood, like plywood, because that don’t need as thick as the others. Nailed that sucker on, and boom, the main box was done!
Doors and Finishing Touches
Now for the doors. I measured and cut two more pieces of wood, making sure they’d cover the front of the cabinet completely. I attached them to the box with some simple hinges. It took a bit of fiddling to get them to line up perfectly, but eventually, they swung open and closed smoothly.
To make it look a little less…rough, I sanded down all the edges and surfaces. I also added a simple latch to keep the doors closed.

I didn’t use any paint, just keep it simple. After that all done, I mounted the dartboard inside the cabinet. Finally, I hung the whole thing on the wall in my game room.
It’s not perfect, by any means. There are a few gaps here and there, and the wood isn’t exactly furniture-grade. But hey, it works! It hides the dartboard when I’m not using it, and it looks way better than just having a board stuck on the wall. Plus, I built it myself, which is pretty cool.
