Alright, let’s talk about this dartboard wood project I just wrapped up. I’ve been wanting to make my own dartboard setup for a while now, and I finally got around to it. I’m no carpenter, but I figured, how hard could it be, right?
First things first, I had to gather my materials. I went down to the local hardware store and picked up a big piece of plywood. I think it was about 4 feet by 4 feet. I chose the piece of wood not too thin, not too thick, just right in the middle. Then I got some smaller pieces of wood to make a frame. Oh, and I grabbed some screws, wood glue, and some sandpaper while I was there. I already had a dartboard, so that was covered.
Once I got everything home, I started by cutting the big piece of plywood into a circle. Now, this was a bit tricky. I don’t have one of those fancy circle-cutting jigs, so I just found a big bucket that was about the right size, traced around it with a pencil, and then used a jigsaw to cut it out. It wasn’t perfect, but it was pretty darn close.

- Cut the plywood into a circle.
- Sand the edges of the circle.
- Cut wood for the frame.
Next, I sanded the heck out of that circle. I started with some rough sandpaper to smooth out the edges from the jigsaw, and then I moved to a finer grit to make the whole surface nice and smooth. I wanted it to look at least somewhat professional, you know?
After that, it was time to build the frame. I cut the smaller pieces of wood to the right lengths to make a square frame around the circular backboard. I used wood glue and screws to put it all together. I’m not gonna lie, my first attempt at the frame was a little wonky, but I took it apart and tried again. Second time’s the charm, I guess.
Almost Done
Once the frame was solid, I attached the circular backboard to it. I used more wood glue and screws, making sure everything was lined up properly. Then, I let the whole thing dry overnight. I figured the glue needed some time to really set.
The next day, I mounted the dartboard onto the backboard. Most dartboards come with a mounting bracket, so that part was pretty straightforward. I just followed the instructions that came with the dartboard.
And that’s it! I hung the whole thing up on the wall, and it looks pretty good, if I do say so myself. It’s not perfect, but it’s sturdy, and it gets the job done. Plus, I made it myself, which is pretty cool. I had a blast playing darts on it already with my friends. We drank some beers and had some laughs. I think I’ll try building a cabinet for it next.
