So, the other day, my buddies and I decided to hit the golf course. We’re not exactly pros, you know, but we love a good round of golf. This time, we thought, why not try something different? We’d heard about this thing called a “shamble” format, and it sounded like a blast. Let me tell you, it was.
What is Shamble Format?
A shamble in golf is a type of tournament format that combines elements of a scramble and stroke play.
Getting Started
First off, we all teed off like usual. But here’s the twist: we picked the best drive out of the four of us. Yeah, that’s right, only the best one counted. Made us all feel a bit better about those not-so-great shots, you know?

Playing the Holes
- Tee Off: We started each hole by teeing off.
- Select Best Drive: Then, we walked down the fairway and chose the best drive among us. This is where the “shamble” part comes in.
- Play Own Ball: From that best drive spot, we each played our own ball for the rest of the hole. This is like regular stroke play.
After the tee shot, it was every man for himself. We each played our own ball from that prime spot. It was kind of cool because we got the advantage of a great starting point, but we still had to prove ourselves individually. We marked our scores individually, just like in a regular game.
Keeping Score
Now, the scoring was the fun part. Since we were playing as a team, we took the two lowest scores from our group for each hole. It’s like a mini-competition within the bigger game. We added up those scores to get our team total.
It felt good to be playing as a team. Even though we were competing against each other, it was more about the fun of the game and less about individual glory. We were high-fiving after good shots, and laughing off the bad ones. There was this real sense of camaraderie, you know?
Wrapping Up
At the end of the day, we tallied up our scores and, well, let’s just say the bragging rights were well-earned. But honestly, the best part was just hanging out with my buddies, trying something new, and enjoying the game. We definitely agreed that we’ll be playing shamble again. It’s a great way to mix things up and keep the game interesting. Plus, it’s perfect for a group of friends who just want to have a good time on the course. Highly recommend it!
