Okay, here is my sharing about drawing the Atlanta Motor Speedway.
So, I’ve been wanting to try my hand at drawing the Atlanta Motor Speedway for a while now. I mean, I’m a huge NASCAR fan, and that track is just iconic, you know? With all those races and the history, especially after its reconfiguration, I felt it’s a must-draw for me.
First off, I started by gathering some references. I looked up a bunch of photos online. I typed “nascar atlanta motor speedway photos” into the search bar, and wow, there were tons of images! I saw some cool shots of drivers like Joey Logano and also some pictures from the red carpet at the NASCAR Awards. It really got me pumped to start drawing!

- I started with a basic outline of the track. Just getting the shape right was a bit of a challenge. I used a pencil and a big sheet of paper.
- Then, I added some of the bigger details, like the grandstands and the pit road. I kept going back to those photos I found to make sure I was on the right track.
- Once I had the main structure down, I started working on the infield. That’s where all the garages and stuff are. I wanted to make it look busy, just like it is on race day.
- After that, I focused on the cars. I mean, you can’t have a speedway drawing without the cars, right? I sketched a few of them on the track, trying to capture that sense of speed and movement.
- Finally, I added some color. I used colored pencils because I wanted to give it that classic, hand-drawn feel. I went with the typical colors you see at the track green for the grass, gray for the asphalt, and all those bright colors for the cars.
It took me a few days, working on and off, but I’m pretty happy with how it turned out. It’s not perfect, but I think I captured the energy of the Atlanta Motor Speedway. It’s hanging on my wall now, right next to my other NASCAR stuff. I might try drawing another track sometime, maybe Daytona or Talladega. We’ll see!
What I Learned
It was tough! Drawing a whole speedway with all those details is no joke. I definitely got a new appreciation for the artists who do this kind of stuff regularly. I have always been confused. Why do people have to draw this kind of picture? I realized today that it’s a kind of love for NASCAR. I think I’ll keep practicing and maybe try some different angles and perspectives next time.
