Okay, so, I’ve been messing around with Source Insight lately, right? It’s this code editor thing that’s supposed to make browsing and understanding code easier. But man, I ran into this annoying issue where the whole thing just crashes when I’m scrolling through a window. Super frustrating, you know?
So, I was working on this project, and every time I tried to scroll through my code, boom! Source Insight would just freeze and then crash. I’m like, “What the heck is going on?” I tried everything I could think of. I restarted the program, restarted my computer, even reinstalled Source Insight. Nothing worked!
I started digging around online, trying to find a solution. I checked out some forums and stuff, but most of the advice was pretty generic. You know, the usual “update your drivers,” “check for conflicts,” blah blah blah. None of that was helping me.

Then, I stumbled upon this one forum thread where someone mentioned that the issue might be related to the size of the project or the number of files. I was working on a pretty big project, so I thought, “Hmm, maybe that’s it.”
I decided to try a few things to test that theory. First, I tried opening a smaller project in Source Insight. And guess what? No crashes! It scrolled perfectly fine. Okay, so that narrowed it down a bit.
Next, I went back to my big project and tried closing some of the files I wasn’t actively using. I figured maybe having too many files open at once was overloading the program or something. I closed a bunch of files, and tried scrolling again.
It worked! The crashes stopped. It was still a little slow sometimes, but at least it wasn’t crashing anymore. So, it seems like the problem was related to the project size, or maybe the number of open files, just like that forum post suggested.
Here is what I ended up doing:

- Closed unnecessary files in the project.
- Split the project into smaller, more manageable parts.
- Avoided opening a crazy number of files at the same time.
It’s not a perfect solution, but it’s made Source Insight usable again for me. I still wish it wouldn’t get so bogged down with large projects, but hey, at least I can scroll through my code without it crashing every five seconds. I hope this helps someone else out there who’s pulling their hair out over this issue!
