Okay, so, I’ve been messing around with this “John Daly caddy” thing, and let me tell you, it’s been a wild ride. I heard about it from some friends who are really into golf, and I thought, “Why not? Sounds like fun.” I don’t play golf at all, I’m totally useless at it. But, I thought I could make this work.
First off, I had to figure out what this whole “John Daly caddy” thing even meant. So I jumped on google and found some forum posts about what John Daly is famous for. Found out he’s famous for smoking and drinking and being a bit of a wild man on the course, so I figured out that that’s the angle I want to go for. I’m not going to be a caddy to an actual pro, so I will need to modify it slightly.
Next, I called up my buddy, Mark, who’s a decent golfer, not amazing, but he’s alright, and told him about my idea. He laughed his ass off but agreed to let me caddy for him, John Daly style. I told him that I would get him beers and cigarettes on tap, he was super into it. We booked a tee time at our local course for the next weekend.
Then, the preparation began. I went out and bought a cooler, you know, the kind you take to the beach. Filled it up with ice and a bunch of beers. I also grabbed a couple of packs of Mark’s favorite smokes. I wanted to be prepared, like a real caddy, just a very different kind of caddy.
The day finally arrived, and we headed to the course. I showed up with my cooler and smokes, ready to go. Mark couldn’t stop laughing, and honestly, neither could I. It was already a blast, and we hadn’t even started.
Throughout the round, I kept Mark supplied with cold beers and smokes whenever he wanted them. I even tried to give him some “advice,” which was probably terrible, but hey, I was in character! I don’t know anything about golf, but he was pretty relaxed and didn’t care.
The Result
- Did we win? Absolutely not. Did we have a ton of fun? Hell yeah!
- Would I do it again? In a heartbeat. It’s a hilarious way to spend a day on the course.
- Any tips? Make sure your golfer friend has a good sense of humor and doesn’t take the game too seriously. This isn’t for the professional circuit.
At the end of the day, it wasn’t about the score. It was about having a laugh and doing something completely out of the ordinary. We laughed so hard our stomachs hurt. I highly recommend giving this a try if you’re looking for a fun and crazy day out with your golf buddies. Just remember to drink responsibly, and hey, maybe brush up on some basic golf rules if you actually want to be helpful.
I’m going to try and see if I can make this an annual thing with my buddies, it’s too much fun not to do it again. I might even try and get some custom t-shirts made to make it even better.
